Physical Conditioning and Weight Lifting is a class designed to improve a student's overall physical fitness through weight training, running, agility drills and endurance workouts. The students will become aware of the term accountability; that what they do or do not do will have a serious impact on their grade. I want the students to have fun and develop a positive attitude toward physical fitness and conditioning.
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday the students will focus on strength training in our weight room. Wednesdays we will focus on agility and speed training, along with physical fitness assesment testing. Fridays the students will be able to weight lift or choose a sport they want to work on. Each class period will begin with a warm-up and streching activity. The students will be expected to have a positive attitude, display a good work ethic and be responsible for staying on task. They will document their test scores and progress in the weight room by using their i-Pads and electronic portfollios.
Technology has become a big part of our society and within education. In class, we will be trying to utilize as much technology as possible. Various workouts will include the use of heart rate monitors (HRM). The use of an HRM is an accurate way to monitor your heart rate by measuring a student's level of intensity during workouts. It will allow the student to see how hard they have to work to receive optimal benefits from exercise. I too will then be able to monitor and record the students' heart rate information with an i-Pad for my own assessment. This valuable information will help the students adjust their workouts for optimal performance. Students will also be able to utilize many physical conditioning apps on their i-Pads.
