In High School Physical Education, the students will gain a knowledge base of various sports and lifetime activities and develop a good work ethic that will continue into all aspects of their life. The students will be expected to have a positive attitude and gain a sense of excitement for physical activity. The students will focus on the development of their physical fitness level through weight training, running and physical fitness circuits. The students physical fitness level will be assessed using the following physical fitness tests: consecutive right angle push-ups, sit-ups, a pacer running test, standing long jump, sit and reach flexibility and pull-ups.
The following units will be covered during the course of the year: volleyball, basketball, soccer, speedball, football, badminton, mat ball, ultimate frisbee, whiffle ball, weight lifting/conditioning and archery. Various activities will include the use of heart rate monitors (HRM), which will monitor the students heart rate and intensity level during exercise. These HRMs will provide valuable information for the student to help optimize their workouts and asses their intensity level.
Grading will be based on a daily 30 point participation total: proper gym clothes-10 points, full participation-10 points, and attitude/effort-10 points.
A pre and post assessment test on muscle identification and physical fitness/heart rate concepts will be given.
